Bob Wang
Founder and Chairman
Bob Wang is an executive with vision and proven accomplishment in founding companies that have changed medical imaging and breast care over the past 30 years. When Wang started out, mammography was deemed unsafe for screening purposes due to its high radiation levels. The high-resolution and low-dose rare-earth x-ray radiography technology developed by Wang, which was sold to 3M with a license to Kodak, allowed a 50% dose reduction to all radiography procedures and gave rise to modern mammography as we know it today. In the 1990s, Wang founded R2 Technology to develop computer-aided detection (CAD) technology to reduce screening oversights in mammography and CT lung. R2 was recently sold to Hologic. Over time, Wang noticed that mammography did not detect a proportion of earlier, more treatable cancers – particularly in women with dense breast tissue – and that ultrasound was more effective in doing so. Subsequent studies confirmed this observation. In 1997, Wang founded U-Systems, Inc. to develop the technology behind the somo.v™ system. His hard work and passion continue to a make a difference for women everywhere.
Wang received a B.S. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. degree from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
